Why not MP3? Because MP3 is much more heavy. MIDI files do not contain music ; they just contain the instructions to make your computer able to play music. This involves that the performance may be mechanistic, but a couple of seconds will be enough for you to listen and to have an idea of the genre of music. In this chapter, we don't deal with performance but with writing | New Music Database | contains information about American composers that have been active since 1980. This information is organized into two lists. The Composer List provides for each composer: (1) year of birth and death (2) a link to the composer's home page, (3) a link to the New Grove Dictionary* online entry for the composer, (4) a list of the composer's works since 1980, and (5) other relevant links. The Composition List isolates the work list information in the database, allowing you to sort and search for compositions by year and title.
